Leichhardt Monument

A monument displaying the travels of explorer Ludwig Leichhardt through the region in the 1840s.

Chinchilla Cenotaph

In honour of those from the district who enlisted in World War I, an aluminium spire has been set on the stone digger base which was originally positioned near the railway overpass from 1919 to 1977. The original digger that stood on this base was removed, restored and relocated to the RSL which is situated further along Heeney Street.

Chinchilla RSL Memorial Digger

A sandstone statue of an Australian infantryman originally located at Anzac Park.  The digger was damaged and removed from the original base in 1977 and relocated to its current position.

Bug Farm Monument

The site of the Prickly Pear Board 'Bug Farm' at Chinchilla which in 1924 brought in 3000 Cactoblastis eggs from Buenos Aires.  The Cactoblastis insects which hatched (larvae of the Cactoblastis moth) ate through the Prickly Pear infestation in under four years.

Chinchilla Flood Markers

Markers on the footpath of Heeney Street from the Post Office to the Club Hotel provide a lasting legacy of the devastating impacts past floods have had on the Chinchilla community, displaying previous flood levels and historical images.

The final resting place of many of our pioneering ancestors and a reflection of our strong German heritage.

Boonarga Cactoblastis Memorial Hall

The only known hall erected in honour of an insect, the hall commemorates the Cactoblastis moth, which was introduced to eradicate the Prickly Pear last century.
