Moonie Yabbie Races
26 November 2016
Our annual Moonie Yabbie Races are a fun-filled popular event showcased on a big screen to ensure you don't miss the action! Each November, crowds gather at the Moonie Sports Club to witness the hilarity of local yabbies waiting in the docks for their first leg of eight races. Grab a syndicate of six to ten friends and buy one of our fine-bred yabbies to be part of the exciting auctioneers call. There is plenty of entertainment for the kids too, so bring along the whole family and share in some country hospitality with an Aussie BBQ as the sun goes down and enjoy the live entertainment which takes you into a great social evening.

Jazz in the Garden
Next in 2017
Held every two years, Jazz in the Garden is a casual fundraising affair hosted under the shady expanse of mature jacaranda and cedar trees in the immaculate country gardens of "Sunnyview", Miles. Meander through the picturesque plantings of natives and blossoming roses, with a crisp glass of sauv blanc in hand, as the lively sounds of jazz fill the air. Absorb the breathtaking scenery of the Dogwood Creek on your doorstep as the sun dips toward the horizon and light filters through the stark branches of the gums along its banks. Make a silent bid on a distinctive work of local art, purchase something unique at a quaint market stall, indulge in home-baked sweets and relax into a quintessential afternoon in the country. Proceeds from this event are donated to charity.
For more information on Jazz in the Garden, please contact the Miles Visitor Information Centre on (07) 4627 1492.
Chinchilla One Long Table
A night of multicultural immersion, One Long Table is an invitation to experience a taste of the diverse cultures that exist within the Chinchilla District. The main street, Heeney Street, is transformed into an alfresco dining space and one long table literally extends its length. Food stalls line the street offering authentic international cuisine which has been prepared and cooked by locals of varying cultures. Locals and visitors are invited to socialise in the balmy autumn evening as a multicultural street party ensues with children's activities and live entertainment throughout the evening.
Paying homage to legendary Australian artist and former Kogan resident Hugh Sawrey, our small town comes alive with up to 2000 visitors when an Art@Kogan Festival is held. Celebrating the life and works of Hugh Sawrey, as well as showcasing local creative artworks, this event features an exhibition, country markets, family entertainment and a day-long programme of art demonstrations. Marvel at amazing sculptures along the Q150 Hugh Sawrey Walkway, immerse yourself in our town's artistic history, discover one-of-a-kind creative pieces and end the day with a country meal under the stars.
For details on the next Art@Kogan event and to keep up to date with the artistic happenings of our town, visit Art@Kogan on Facebook or contact the Chinchilla Visitor Information Centre on (07) 4679 4491.
